- Co-favorite Korpatsch is down at the Ladies Hamburg Open.
The Ladies Hamburg Open tennis tournament progresses to the crucial stage without any German participation. Tamara Korpatsch and Eva Lys bowed out in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Second-seeded Korpatsch lost to Romania's Elena-Gabriela Ruse 1:6, 6:4, 3:6. Her teammate from the Alster Club retired due to injury after the first set against Hungary's Anna Bondar.
Lys, whose left thigh was heavily bandaged, received treatment and a new bandage on the Centre Court while trailing 0:5 in the first set. However, she was unable to continue and retired after losing the first set 0:6.
Korpatsch struggled in the first set but fought back to level the match at one set apiece with a break in the second. In the deciding third set, the 29-year-old saved three match points but ultimately couldn't avoid defeat.
Also eliminated at the Rothenbaum was top seed Mayar Sherif. The Egyptian lost to Serbia's Olga Danilovic 6:3, 2:6, 1:6 on the fifth day of the tournament.
Despite the absence of German players in the later stages, the Ladies Hamburg Open continues with excitement. Unfortunately, second-seeded Tamara Korpatsch and Eva Lys both encountered setbacks, with Korpatsch falling to Elena-Gabriela Ruse and Lys retiring due to injury.
