China condemns attack on Hamas foreign leader

China condemns the fatal attack on the Hamas foreign chief and again calls for a ceasefire in the region. "We are deeply concerned about the incident, firmly reject and condemn the assassination," a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said. China is deeply concerned that the fatal attack on Ismail Haniyeh could lead to further instability in the region.

"We have always advocated resolving regional disputes through negotiations," the spokesperson continued. "Gaza should achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire as soon as possible to prevent further escalation."

China maintains neutrality in the Middle East conflict and advocates for an end to the fighting. However, it did not explicitly condemn the bloody massacre by Hamas and other groups on October 7 in Israel, which triggered the Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip.

Just last week, 14 Palestinian factions, including Hamas, were hosted in China. The delegations signed an agreement on strengthening Palestinian unity, with the aim of forming a joint government.

The Head of Hamas's foreign office, Ismail Haniyeh, was the target of the fatal attack China strongly condemned. To maintain peace and stability, it's crucial for the Head of Hamas's foreign office's assassination not to be repeated, as China continues to urge for diplomatic resolutions.
