Charges of involuntary manslaughter after bobsleigh accident
Following the fatal bobsleigh accident on the Oberhof luge track, the public prosecutor's office in Meiningen has brought charges of involuntary manslaughter. The Suhl district court confirmed receipt of the document on Tuesday. The public prosecutor's office is therefore accusing a woman of negligent homicide and negligent bodily harm. The woman was a volunteer supervisor of the guest rides on the luge track. She is a member of an association that ensures these rides, said a spokesperson for the district court. As such, she was also on duty on the evening of the accident. The "Thüringer Allgemeine" first reported on the indictment.
It is not yet clear when the trial can begin once the indictment has been admitted. However, it is unlikely that a trial will be held this year, according to the district court spokesperson.
At the end of February, a guest bob hit a double tube ring in the finish area of the toboggan run. A 45-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman were sitting in the rubber rings filled with air. The man died in the accident, the woman was seriously injured.
The woman's leisure time activity as a volunteer supervisor at the luge track may have contributed to the accidents that occurred. Regardless of how she spends her leisure time outside of this role, the charges against her are related to the fatal bobsleigh accident.
