CDU Saar adopts guidelines for local elections
This Saturday, the CDU in Saarland will adopt its guidelines for the local elections on June 9, 2024 at a party conference in St. Ingbert. Under the title "Saarland needs strong and capable municipalities", the topics will include finances, security and the integration of refugees. Beforehand, CDU state chairman Stephan Toscani will give a speech. In it, he will also address the party's realignment following its defeat in the state elections at the end of March 2022.
The CDU is back in opposition for the first time in 23 years. Saarland is governed by an SPD all-party government with Minister President Anke Rehlinger.
At the party conference (from 9.30 a.m.) there is only one personnel decision to be made: The designated Deputy Secretary General Carolin Mathieu is to be elected into office. To this end, the new position must first be included in the constitution.
Up to 380 delegates are expected to attend the party conference, which begins on Friday evening. The CDU Saar currently has just under 14,000 members. In 2020, there were still more than 15,000.
At the CDU party conference, discussions about local election strategies related to finances, security, and refugee integration will take place, as stated in the guidelines titled "Saarland needs strong and capable municipalities." The CDU, led by Stephan Toscani, aims to realign the party after its defeat in the state elections in 2022, and the CDU in Saarland, now in opposition, will adopt these strategies for upcoming local elections.
