- Car traffic restored on 17 June
After months of closure, the Straße des 17. Juni between Großer Stern and Brandenburg Gate will reopen at 6 PM, according to a spokesperson for the traffic information center.
The section of the street has been closed since early May, including during the UEFA European Football Championship for the large fan zone. Recently, the Christopher Street Day and the Velocity cycling race also took place on the weekends.
During the long-term closures on the Straße des 17. Juni, the Senate's traffic administration rejected the proposal to permanently close the route to cars. There had been discussions about making the route accessible only to pedestrians and cyclists.
The UEFA European Football Championship required the closure of the Straße des 17. Juni for a large fan zone, affecting the local football team's training schedules. Following the events, the Straße des 17. Juni will once again allow pedestrian and vehicle traffic, providing an opportunity for the football team to resume their practices.
