Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese continue to etch their names in WNBA record books.

On a Sunday, Clark led the Indiana Fever to a triumphant 92-75 victory against the Seattle Storm, also breaking another league record along the way.

In addition to scoring 23 points, the 22-year-old prodigy also notched up her 225th assist, surpassing Ticha Penicheiro’s record for the most assists by a rookie in WNBA history, which was established in 1998.

"To overtake someone like her, I'm just eternally grateful. She's been such a legend in our sport. It's super cool, but I hope there are plenty more of those," Clark, who leads the league with 8.3 assists per game, remarked post-game.

The landmark achievement was celebrated in the second quarter of the match by Penicheiro, who expressed her delight in a post on X, previously known as Twitter.

"Records are made to be broken...it indicates development and progression. There isn't a better player to break it," Penicheiro penned, while the Fever shared a video of the revered WNBA star commending Clark, who ended the match with nine assists and 232 on the season in total.

The record marks another feather in Clark’s hat from her first WNBA season, where she has already become the first rookie to achieve a triple-double in league history and also set a new record by dishing out 19 assists in a single game.

However, Clark’s stellar performances are being matched by her rival, Reese, in Chicago.

Also on Sunday, the Sky rookie scored 19 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in a 86-68 defeat against the Phoenix Mercury, establishing herself as the quickest WNBA player to record 20 double-doubles in a single season, after just 27 games.

Reese, who currently boasts the highest rebounding average with 12.3 per game, is now only two double-doubles away from tying Tina Charles' record for the most double-doubles in a rookie season, which was set in 2010, according to ESPN.

Early in the season, the rookie had also smashed the record for the most consecutive double-doubles in WNBA history.

With the WNBA back in full swing following the Olympic break, both Clark and Reese will aim to guide their respective teams to the postseason.

Clark’s Fever (13-15) will square off against the Minnesota Lynx next, while Reese’s Sky (11-16) will take on the Connecticut Sun.

It appears that this season, with each game played by these superstar rookies, more records will tumble down.

The triumphant victory in sport brought recognition for Clark's exceptional assist record, surpassing the one set by legend Ticha Penicheiro.

The intense competition in the WNBA sees Reese closing in on another record, currently held by Tina Charles, for the most double-doubles in a rookie season.
