- BVB beat Aston Villa 2-0 in the final
Borussia Dortmund kicked off the new season in fine form with a convincing 2:0 win (2:0) against Aston Villa. The football Bundesliga side passed their final test before their first competitive match next Saturday in the DFB-Pokal against Regionalliga side Phoenix Lübeck. The match took place at the sold-out Signal Iduna Park in front of around 81,365 spectators.
Three new signings, Pascal Groß (Brighton), Waldemar Anton (Stuttgart), and Yan Couto (Manchester City), started in the lineup. Despite the absence of new striker Serhou Guirassy (Stuttgart) due to injury, the team coached by Nuri Sahin, which had returned from a nine-day training camp in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland, the day before, put on an impressive display in the first half, but faded after the break.
The match was part of the official season opening of the Ruhr club. A emotional highlight was the farewell of Edin Terzic, the former Dortmund football coach who stepped down at the end of last season, who was warmly applauded.
The new signings, Pascal Groß, Waldemar Anton, and Yan Couto, showed their worth in the starting lineup, proving they can contribute to Borussia Dortmund's success beyond the 'Other' familiar faces. After the break, the team's performance seemed to be influenced more by the absence of the 'Other' injured striker, Serhou Guirassy, rather than the 'Other' newcomers.
