Brandenburg CDU executive proposes state list

The executive committee of the Brandenburg CDU has decided on a proposal for the party's state list for the state elections. State leader Jan Redmann is to be the top candidate in first place, followed by state parliament member Kristy Augustin and General Secretary Gordon Hoffmann, as the Brandenburg CDU announced on Friday evening.

In 4th place, the executive committee has nominated State Economics Minister Rainer Genilke and in 5th place the Parliamentary Secretary of the CDU parliamentary group in the state parliament, Steeven Bretz. Saskia Ludwig and Frank Bommert, members of the state parliament, who belong to the right wing of the party, follow in 6th and 7th place on the proposed list.

In 20th place, the board nominated Adeline Awemo from Cottbus. The woman from Cameroon is a member of the advisory board for integration and migration and is running against AfD member of the state parliament Lars Schieske as the CDU's direct candidate in the Cottbus-Süd constituency in the state parliament elections.

André Schaller, the CDU parliamentary group's spokesperson for local politics, and Björn Lakenmacher, spokesperson for home affairs, were relegated to 25th and 27th place on the Executive Board's list of candidates.

The parties' state lists for the election determine the order of the candidates who enter the state parliament alongside the directly elected MPs according to the party's share of the second vote. The CDU state list is to be decided on December 8 at a state representatives' meeting in Potsdam. Proposals for the European elections in June 2024 will then also be voted on. The Executive Board nominated long-time Brandenburg MEP Christian Ehler for first place for Brandenburg.

The decision made by the Brandenburg CDU executive committee includes placing Party leader Jan Redmann in first place and Kristy Augustin in second for the state list, which will be used in the upcoming elections. Furthermore, the party is considering Christian Ehler for the first place in the proposed list for the European elections in 2024.
