Boss Şahin voices his thoughts on the exit of prominent player Brunner from BVB.

The upcoming Bundesliga season is approaching, but not all transfer plans are finalized everywhere. Dortmund coach Nuri Şahin, for instance, is still anticipating some players to depart, reducing the team size. Speaking at a press conference, he also mentioned striker Cedric Brunner, who's already moved on.

Şahin hinted at potential reductions in his squad before the transfer deadline. "I believe something will happen on the outgoing side. It might not be as simple for some players with the new additions and the large squad," said the new boss, replacing Edin Terzić, ahead of Dortmund's Bundesliga opener against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. The transfer window ends this year on August 30.

Young striker Youssoufa Moukoko and midfielder Salih Özcan are potentially sale candidates. Neither was in the squad for last weekend's DFB Pokal win against Phoenix Lübeck (4-1). "I've made it clear to Youssoufa what the situation is. He wants to play, and that's settled. Every player knows where they stand with me," Sahin commented on the recent speculation regarding the 19-year-old Moukoko, linked with Betis Sevilla.

Brunner Shifted to Monaco on Loan

Şahin expressed regret but accepted that Paris Brunner leaving for AS Monaco was inevitable: "We can't hand out favors, this club is too big. What do you expect me to do? Tell someone, 'Hey, extend your contract, and you'll play in the starting eleven.' That's not how it works."

A deal wasn't reached due to Brunner's dissatisfaction with the ambitious sporting perspective presented to him. The talented player, who was named the best U17 World Cup player, wanted a guaranteed spot in the senior squad. Dortmund couldn't promise that. Monaco, a French Champions League participant, loaned Brunner to Cercle Brugge immediately for a season.

Outside of striker Serhou Guirassy, recovering from a knee injury, all professionals are available. Şahin is excited for his Bundesliga debut as Dortmund's head coach: "This day is special in two ways. First, my daughter has a birthday. That's the most important event for me. And I've been anxious about my first home game in the Bundesliga like a kid. We'll be prepared."

The BVB coach, Nuri Şahin, mentioned potential outgoings before the transfer deadline, indicating that some players, such as Youssoufa Moukoko and Salih Özcan, could be sold. Furthermore, Şahin expressed regret over Paris Brunner's departure to AS Monaco, acknowledging the club's size and the necessity to make tough decisions.
