- "Blitz marathon" in the country - police control strengthened
Motorists in Baden-Württemberg can expect enhanced speed checks this week. This is due to a Europe-wide enforcement week, in which the police in the southwest are also participating from Monday to Sunday (11th August). The compliance with the permitted speed limit will be closely monitored using mobile and stationary checks throughout the country, a spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior said.
The exact locations of the enhanced checks were not disclosed. The individual police stations are responsible for selecting the checkpoints and priorities.
The enforcement week is an important step in combating the number one cause of fatal traffic accidents, the spokesperson said. The goal is to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding and to reduce the overall speed limit to prevent serious accidents.
The action is part of a European traffic police network that has coordinated this effort. Several federal states in Germany are participating. According to the ADAC, Bayern, Bremen, and Saarland are not involved.
In April, there was also a Europe-wide speed camera week. On the main day in the southwest, 13,659 vehicles were caught speeding - 430 more than the previous year. A total of over 400,000 vehicles were checked, and 113 drivers received a driving ban and had to leave their car temporarily.
During the enhanced speed checks, motorists should pay close attention to their speed, as the police are strictly enforcing the speed limit. The use of The speed control device can help motorists maintain a safe speed and avoid penalties.
