Belgian royal couple comes to Berlin and Dresden

The Belgian royal couple are coming to Germany for a state visit at the beginning of December. King Philippe and Queen Mathilde are scheduled to visit Berlin and Dresden during their three-day trip. Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner will welcome the royal couple at the Brandenburg Gate next Tuesday (December 5), as announced by the Senate Chancellery on Monday. A reception at Bellevue Palace with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Elke Büdenbender and a meeting with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz are also planned during the visit.

According to the Office of the Federal President, this is King Philippe and Queen Mathilde's first state visit to Germany. According to the Office of the Federal President, it is intended to honor the "diverse connections between the two countries", for example with regard to economic cooperation.

For example, a visit to the East German transmission system operator 50Hertz in Berlin, which belongs to the Belgian Elia Group, is on the agenda with Steinmeier. The visit is to end on Thursday with a tour of the Frauenkirche in Dresden and a visit to a Christmas market. The royal couple have been married since 1999. The 63-year-old Philippe celebrated his tenth anniversary on the throne this year.
