- Bavaria registers more family reunification applications

Applications for family vacation have recently increased significantly in Bavaria. The Center for Bavaria Family and Social Affairs received 1,451 applications last year, of which 585 were approved and a total of around 459,000 euros were paid out. In the previous year, there were only 849 applications, of which 349 were approved.

So far in 2024, the number of applications is similar to the previous year

As of the end of July this year, 1,322 funding applications have been received, a spokesperson for the center said. This is roughly the same level as in July 2023. How the application numbers will develop for the year remains to be seen. The majority of applications are submitted before the summer vacation period.

The authority sees the increase in application numbers as due to higher income limits that have applied since 2023. Additionally, families eligible for housing benefit can receive funding without a separate income check. Furthermore, the funding option has become better known, including in connection with the federal program "Catch-up after Corona for Children and Young People".

Vacation only in family holiday center

Family vacation, funded from the Bavarian Family Ministry's budget, aims to enable families who cannot afford a joint vacation to have a break in a family holiday center. Vacation in other accommodations is not funded.

The annual family net income must be below 31,000 euros for a single parent with one child, and below 34,000 euros for two parents with one child.

The Commission from Bavaria's Family Ministry closely monitors the increase in family vacation applications. Due to the higher income limits and increased awareness, The Commission expects the trend to continue.
