- Average cereal harvest in MV
Farmers in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern have harvested an above-average cereal crop this year, according to data from the State Statistical Office. Yields per hectare for wheat were six percent above the average of the years 2018 to 2023, the office reported.
Wheat is the most important crop for agriculture in MV - it was grown on nearly 300,000 hectares this year. The harvest results are still preliminary, having been determined on more than 90 percent of the areas.
For barley, which was grown on around 150,000 hectares, statisticians recorded a four percent higher yield per hectare than in the years 2018 to 2023. For oats, the result was even 39 percent above the average of the last years. However, oats play a subordinate role in the northeast with around 10,000 hectares of cultivated area.
In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, wheat, being the most significant crop, was grown on nearly 300,000 hectares this year. The yields for wheat per hectare surpassed the average of the years 2018 to 2023 by six percent.
