Around 4000 guests visited the ship lift Niederfinow to celebrate its 90th anniversary of operation. The illuminations at the ship lift were particularly attractive to many visitors, according to a spokesperson for the event. Among them was the oldest river icebreaker in the world from Poland, which had set sail 140 years ago. One of the largest icebreakers in the German fleet was also present.
"We are very pleased," the spokesperson added. He hopes that the ship lift will still be active at its 100th anniversary. For some time now, the ship lift, inaugurated in 1934, has been overshadowed by the new and larger facility next door. In October 2022, a new ship lift was put into operation after a long construction period.
The annual report of the ship lift's operations should include the celebration attended by over 4000 guests. Following this successful anniversary event, the upcoming annual report will certainly highlight the importance of maintaining the ship lift for its 100th anniversary.
