Archaeologists Discover Two Skeletons in Pompeii

In Pompeii, archaeologists frequently make sensational discoveries. Recently, they've unearthed the skeletons of two victims of the Vesuvius eruption in a small room. Furnishings and a treasure trove also offer insights into life at the time.

Archaeologists have discovered the skeletons of two victims of the catastrophic volcanic eruption of 79 AD in the submerged city of Pompeii, Italy. The researchers believe the remains belong to a woman and a man who sought refuge in a room during the eruption of Vesuvius. Excavations are currently underway in the room where the skeletons were found, as announced by the Archaeological Park.

The woman's skeleton was found on the remains of a bed. With her were a small treasure of gold, silver, and bronze coins, as well as golden earrings and pearls. Based on the furnishings, researchers suggest the room was her bedroom. The woman and the man chose this room as a shelter from the ash and rock fragments during the volcanic eruption.

According to the Archaeological Park, the room was so well-sealed that only the surrounding rooms were filled with pumice. However, this also trapped them inside, leading to their demise. Researchers have reconstructed the furniture present during the eruption: a bed, a chest, a lamp, a table with a marble top, and other objects.

In the submerged Roman city at the foot of Vesuvius, archaeologists continue to make sensational discoveries. In 79 AD, ash, mud, and lava covered the ancient city following several volcanic eruptions. Pompeii was rediscovered in the 18th century. The preserved remains of death and destruction still provide glimpses into life at the time. Today, the park is one of Italy's most popular tourist attractions.

The ongoing excavation work in the room where the victims were discovered has revealed a chest filled with ancient coins and valuable jewellery. Due to the efficient excavation work, the room's original furniture, including the bed, lamp, and table, have been preserved.
