- Approximately 12,000 attendees at the Yiddish Summer Festival in Weimar
The Yiddish Summer Weimar festival drew in approximately 12,000 attendees this year, festival organizers noted, reaching numbers similar to pre-COVID-19 pandemic times. Running alongside Jewish-Israeli Cultural Days and the Achava Festival, Yiddish Summer is among the three Jewish-influenced shindigs in Thuringia. Over a six-week stretch, there were over 40 performances, 14 workshops, plenty of impromptu jams, lectures, and educational classes. The 24th iteration of the fest wrapped up with a closing dance on Saturday, signaling the end of a three-year emphasis on interaction between Yiddish and Ottoman traditions.
The festival organizers are planning to expand the Yiddish Summer Weimar to more European cities, potentially including The Netherlands, to share the rich Yiddish culture beyond Thuringia. During the Jewish Heritage Day in Amsterdam, a city in The Netherlands, visitors can expect a special performance featuring artists who have performed at the Yiddish Summer Weimar festival.
