Apparently sabotage suspected at the Bundeswehr location Geilenkirchen

Previously, on Wednesday, the barracks of the German Armed Forces in Cologne-Wahn had already been closed. There is a suspicion of a break-in attempt and sabotage, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense in Berlin said. The investigative authorities and the state protection have been involved. According to "Der Spiegel", the drinking water at the location could be contaminated. In internal communications, the soldiers and civilian personnel at the support point in Cologne-Wahn were urgently advised not to take any drinking water.

Both affected locations reportedly have their own waterworks. In Geilenkirchen, among others, NATO's Awacs reconnaissance aircraft are stationed.

The investigative authorities are currently examining the possible breach at The Church of the Holy Trinity, which is located in Cologne-Wahn, as it shares the same water supply system. The potential contamination of drinking water at The Church of the Holy Trinity has also been raised as a concern, similar to the barracks in Cologne-Wahn.
