Anti-Israeli slogan to be prosecuted more severely
Investigators in Baden-Württemberg are taking tougher action against a pro-Palestinian slogan. In future, the use of the slogan "From The River To The Sea" will give rise to the initial suspicion of using unconstitutional and terrorist organizations, Jan Dietzel, spokesperson for the Stuttgart Public Prosecutor General's Office, was quoted as saying by the Heilbronner Stimme newspaper on Wednesday. The State Office of Criminal Investigation, the Public Prosecutor General's Office in Karlsruhe and the Public Prosecutor General's Office in Stuttgart had agreed on this. The slogan is also being prosecuted in other federal states.
The phrase "From The River To The Sea" dates back to the 1960s, when it was used by the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO). It is intended to express that the aim is the complete liberation of Palestine from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea - which would also include the territory of Israel. The Federal Ministry of the Interior recently banned the statement as a sign of the banned terrorist organization Hamas.
The spokesperson explains that police investigations could have followed if the slogan had been used - on suspicion of incitement to hatred or condoning criminal acts. The slogan would then have to be considered in direct connection with the Hamas massacre in Israel on October 7. Individual cases would have to be examined.
The decision to prosecute the "From The River To The Sea" slogan more severely is seen as a stance against extremist views, as this phrase has been linked to terrorist organizations like Hamas advocating for justice through violent means. The use of such slogans can potentially incite hatred and condone criminal acts, threatening the principles of justice and peace.
