- Another threat to Thuringian schools
Multiple schools in Thuringia receive threatening emails again. As a result, two schools in Erfurt were evacuated this morning, as reported by the police. They are currently being searched. In Jena, a threatening letter was also received, the police said. Classes are continuing as normal, but police are on the scene. There are also cases in other federal states.
Gutenberg Gymnasium Evacuated
One of the affected schools in Erfurt is the Gutenberg Gymnasium, which gained international attention in 2002 due to a school shooting. A bomb-sniffing dog is currently on site, a police spokesperson said. If nothing is found, classes could resume on Thursday.
A threatening email was also received at the State Integrated Comprehensive School in Erfurt. It is still unclear if the content of the emails is similar, the spokesperson said. The school is currently being checked, and students have been evacuated. Classes should also resume on Thursday if possible.
Classes in Jena Continue Despite Threat
The situation at the Grete Unrein Comprehensive School in Jena is different. It was found that identical emails were sent to schools across the country, a police spokesperson said. Therefore, the school was only searched by officers. A bomb-sniffing dog was not deployed.
Classes are continuing as normal, students' bags have been checked. Police will remain on site until the end of classes. "The likelihood that the harmful event announced in the email will occur is relatively low, given that multiple such emails have been received nationwide."
Cases in Other Federal States
There are also restrictions due to bomb threats at schools in other federal states. In Saxony, police were deployed to four schools, and in some cases, classes were suspended. Threatening emails were also received in Saxony-Anhalt.
Threatening emails were sent to various Thuringian schools at the start of the new school year. There was also a series of bomb threats last fall, which the police were able to clear up.
The Gutenberg Gymnasium, known for its past school shooting incident in 2002, was evacuated today due to a new threatening email. A bomb-sniffing dog was brought in to search the premises.
Despite receiving a threatening email, classes at the Grete Unrein Comprehensive School in Jena are continuing as normal, with students' bags being checked and police presence until the end of the day.
