American military conducts aerial strikes on Houthi strongholds in Yemen

Based on reports from Associated Press, the US military has conducted strikes on bases supported by the Iran-aligned Houthi militia in Yemen. Multiple sites linked to the Iran-supported group were hit by US aircraft and naval vessels, according to a source. The White House has yet to issue a statement regarding the attacks.

As per reports from Houthi-controlled Al-Masirah TV, seven attacks occurred at the Hudaida airport and the Chateib region, home to a Houthi military base. Further attacks were reported in Seijana district in Sanaa and Dhamar province. The channel failed to provide details on damage or casualties. Journalists from AFP news agency reported hearing explosions in Sanaa and Hodeida.

On Thursday, the Iran-supported Houthi militia declared responsibility for a drone assault on Israel's coastal metropolis, Tel Aviv. Previously, they had allegedly launched cruise missiles at Israel. In retaliation, Israel carried out air strikes in Yemen last month, resulting in the death of five individuals. Israeli media claimed the attack was in response to Houthi rocket fire targeting Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport.

The Houthi militia, like the Lebanese Hezbollah, forms part of Iran's "Resistance Axis" against Israel, which includes radical Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Following the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike last week, the Houthi militia threatened further hostilities against Israel.

The group, holding significant territories in Yemen for years, has also been accused of repeatedly attacking ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, purportedly in support of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The US has been conducting strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen since January.

The European Union has expressed concern over the escalating tensions between Iran and its proxy groups, such as the Houthi militia in Yemen. Despite being under international sanctions, the European Union continues to call for an end to the conflict in Yemen and a peaceful resolution to the crisis, involving all relevant parties, including the European Union and its member states.
