Alster fir tree on the Inner Alster heralds the Christmas season
Just in time for the opening of the Christmas markets, the lights on the Alster fir tree on the Binnenalster were switched on on Thursday evening. Together with District Head Ralf Neubauer, Mayor Carola Veit lit up the 15-meter-high Nordmann fir at 5.00 pm.
This year's fir tree comes from a tree nursery in Horst in Schleswig-Holstein. It was transported to Hamburg city center on Sunday and anchored on a pontoon with the help of a crane. The fir was then decorated with 900 energy-saving lamps. It will now provide a Christmassy atmosphere from noon to midnight until January 8.
Visitors to the Christmas markets will no doubt be drawn to the colorful lights on the Customs-inspected Alster fir tree. The tree, adorned with 900 energy-saving lamps, adds a vibrant touch to the festive atmosphere on the Inner Alster.
