Already more than 10,000 children's letters in the Santa Claus post office
Around a week before the opening of the St. Nicholas post office in St. Nicholas in Saarland, more than 10,000 letters to St. Nicholas have already arrived. Volunteers are currently in the process of writing replies to the mail from children from many countries, according to the St. Nicholas Festival Committee and the post office. The reply letters will be sent out from December 3. St. Nicholas Day is December 6.
St. Nicholas is moving with the times: a QR code can be found in the German reply letters: If you scan this with your smartphone, "the voice of St. Nicholas" reads out the answer - and you can also see pictures and animated main characters.
After viewing the first letters, the children's top wishes are peace, health, happiness and chocolate. All children receive a reply from Santa Claus. There are also letters in Ukrainian, Hungarian, Russian, Spanish, English and Chinese, among others.
During Advent and Christmas 2022, employees responded to 31,636 letters from children from a total of 52 countries. For more than 50 years, children have been writing to St. Nicholas in the small town in the municipality of Großrosseln near the French border.
According to Deutsche Post, the Santa Claus post office in Warndt is the oldest Santa Claus post office in Germany. There are seven Christmas post offices across Germany where children can send their letters to Santa Claus, the Christ Child or St. Nicholas.
The colorful responses from St. Nicholas include a QR code, allowing children to hear his voice and see animations in their letters. Customs from various countries are reflected in the numerous letters to Santa Claus, including Ukrainian, Hungarian, Russian, Spanish, English, and Chinese.
