Regrettably, a two-year-old child who was one of the injured passed away in the hospital subsequent to the incident. The police are intensely investigating the situation, harboring a profound suspicion.
The tragic news was shared by the authorities that, apart from the deceased toddler, there were seven more individuals who were wounded as a result of the crash. Two other two-year-olds were among the injured persons. According to the fire department's report from Monday evening, the two-year-old child and another individual sustained moderate injuries. The rest of the victims had minor injuries.
Based on preliminary police investigations, it appears that a 22-year-old and a 24-year-old were the drivers of their respective vehicles, heading towards Billstedt on Schiffbeker Weg. Their cars collided at an intersection, with the 24-year-old's car first impacting with the car driven by a 40-year-old man, and then the 22-year-old's car being involved in the accident. The 22-year-old's vehicle skidded off the road and crashed into several trees along the side.
Investigation for unauthorized racing
The investigation went on the following day. Among other things, the police are considering the possibility that the young men were participating in an unauthorized street race on Schiffbeker Weg. The Hamburg Police has issued a request for any witnesses.
The heavy damage to the vehicles did not prevent all occupants from being rescued before the arrival of the fire department. Kind-hearted bystanders initially offered assistance. In total, around 70 emergency service personnel from the fire department and rescue service spent roughly three hours at the scene.
