Air travel in Germany rose 6.2 percent in June

The number of air travelers in Germany increased by 6.2 percent in June compared to the previous year. A total of 18.8 million people took off or landed at the main airports, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office on Wednesday in Wiesbaden. However, the number of passengers was still below the 2019 level: In the year before the Corona pandemic, 21.6 million air travelers were counted.

In the first half of 2024, 90.8 million passengers took off and landed at the main airports in Germany. This was 10.5 percent more than in the first half of 2023. At the same time, prices for international flights fell by 3.1 percent.

The most popular destination in June 2024 was Spain with 2.9 million passengers. Turkey came in second with two million passengers, followed by Italy with 1.3 million. All three countries saw an increase compared to the previous year. Compared to 2019, the number of travelers to and from Italy decreased by 13.8 percent, while air traffic with Turkey increased by 20.1 percent.

Air travellers to Italy still faced a decrease in numbers compared to 2019, despite a notable increase in 2024.Total air travellers in June 2024 witnessed a significant surge, with millions choosing popular destinations like Spain, Turkey, and Italy for their trips.
