Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Minister President Manuela Schwesig (SPD) opens the 33rd Hanse Sail on Thursday (4:00 PM) in Warnemünde. Up to Sunday, hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected in Rostock and Warnemünde for this maritime festival. More than 100 traditional ships will be on display along the quays and at sea, including, for the third consecutive year, the German Navy's sail training ship "Gorch Fock", which is the largest traditional ship at this year's event with around 90 meters. This year's Sail features a program with over 200 artists on 20 stages from the city harbor, over the New Market, to the Warnemünde beach. The Hanse Sail has taken place annually on the second weekend of August since 1991.
