After the storm in northern Hesse, the focus is now on provisionally restoring infrastructure, removing mud and debris, and pumping out water, according to the county of Kassel. In Gieselwerder, a district of Wesertal, emergency services have made good progress, so that a large part of the cleanup work could be completed by the end of Friday.

A one-way traffic system has been set up there to transport rubble and debris from the affected areas. In the most affected community of Trendelburg-Gottsbüren, the sports hall is serving as an emergency shelter, according to reports. The building inspection department of the county has begun checking the structural stability of buildings in the storm-hit areas.

The emergency services are being rotated regularly, according to the county administration. In addition, disaster protection fire brigades from the county of Waldeck-Frankenberg and the Werra-Meißner district have been deployed. At times, up to 700 personnel have been involved.

The county's building inspection department is also looking into the stability of other structures besides the sports hall in the storm-hit areas. After assessing the damage, additional repairs and renovations might be necessary for these other buildings as well.
