Following the classification of the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt as definitely right-wing extremist, AfD state leader Martin Reichardt has announced a legal review. "We will take the necessary legal steps against this classification. The state executive committee will discuss this in the coming week," Reichardt told the German Press Agency on Tuesday. "I see a clear political motivation on the part of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. Our poll ratings are going up, our membership figures are going up, we have local and European elections in 2024: That's why the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, which has been instrumentalized by the government, is stepping up its game. But we are a thoroughly democratic party, the accusations against us are unfounded."

In Saxony-Anhalt, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution has classified the state association of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) as a confirmed right-wing extremist organization. This was announced by the head of the authority, Jochen Hollmann, on Tuesday in response to a query. The authority had evaluated numerous anti-Muslim, racist and anti-Semitic statements made by functionaries and elected representatives.

The legal action announced by AfD state leader Reichardt challenges the classification of their party as right-wing extremist in Saxony-Anhalt. The classification of the AfD as a confirmed right-wing extremist organization by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution has raised concerns within the party, as they perceive it as politically motivated due to their rising poll ratings and membership figures.
