Actor Ben Affleck discusses his perceived 'serious expression' in an open interview.
Oscar-winning star chats about his seemingly perpetual grumpiness on an episode of "Hart to Heart," hosted by Kevin Hart. During the discussion, Affleck admits to being a bit shy and disliking excessive attention, which might be why people often wonder about his continually somber demeanor.
"You know, I'm just modest and I don't enjoy being the center of attention," Affleck confessed to Hart. "So, when people see me and think I'm always in a bad mood, it's because I'm often in situations where a camera is shoved in my face, and that's not my idea of a fun time."
Affleck goes on to explain that he especially dislikes the paparazzi when they are around his children.
"I may seem angry that you're near my kids," Affleck said. "I don't mind if you're snapping my picture after a night out or at a premiere, go for it. Have a field day. I don't even notice you. But when it comes to my kids, that's a whole different ball game."
Hart jokingly suggests that Affleck's constant scowl is a result of having a "resting b*tch face," to which Affleck replies that he prefers to call it a "resting intense face."
"I've noticed that people project certain images onto me that I don't feel at all," Affleck elaborated. "Whether it's my appearance, a role I've played, or something... People used to call me a 'frat guy.' Never once joined a fraternity and never set foot in one. I don't have anything against fraternities, but I don't see how they could claim I'm a frat guy when I wasn't even there. It's a bit confusing."
