Health issues of the bus driver are believed to have caused the accident involving a tourist bus on the A72 motorway in Saxony's Vogtland region, according to initial police findings. There are no indications of other causes such as a technical malfunction or involvement of other vehicles, a police spokeswoman said upon request. A 62-year-old bus driver is now being investigated for reckless bodily harm.

The bus, carrying 40 passengers from Saxony's Bad Lausick en route to Bavaria, veered off the road between the Treuen and Plauen-Ost junctions, ended up in the side ditch, and finally came to a halt in a bush. Seven people were injured in the incident. The 62-year-old bus driver sustained severe injuries and was taken to a hospital. He has since been discharged, the spokeswoman said. Among the injured was a 13-year-old girl. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.

"It was fortunate that the bus didn't roll down a slope and come to a stop," the spokeswoman emphasized. The accident brought back memories of the bus tragedy on the A9 near Leipzig in late March. At that time, a double-decker bus carrying 54 people veered off the road and overturned - four women lost their lives.

The 62-year-old bus driver is under investigation for his role in the incident that resulted in an injury to his body and seven other individuals. The severe injuries sustained by the driver likely contributed to the bus veering off the road.
