Aaron Rodgers said he chose to continue his NFL playing career rather than becoming Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s running mate in the US presidential race.

Aaron Rodgers turned down a possible Vice Presidential role under Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to continue with his football career.

Earlier, CNN stated that Kennedy had a meeting with Rodgers concerning the prospect of Rodgers joining Kennedy's campaign. However, Kennedy eventually chose Silicon Valley lawyer and businesswoman Nicole Shanahan as his vice-presidential nomination.

Rodgers, a 40-year-old NFL player, spoke to reporters for the first time about the dilemma he faced: whether to leave football and join the political realm or remain playing football.

Reporters reached out to the Kennedy campaign for a response.

Rodgers returned to the Jets after injury following an almost full season absence due to a torn left Achilles in his debut game with the team.

Although he rejoined the practice field at the end of last season, Rodgers never competed in NFL matches that season.

Jets' practice program has now commenced, involving Organized Team Activities (OTAs). Rodgers is present and participating fully in these training sessions.

“It’s just about the mental part, these past few days,” mentioned Rodgers, as he prepares for his return from injury, four months prior to the new league season.

“These practices have been beneficial. I'm enjoying being on the field, having the freedom to move around without being concerned, and seeing how my body reacts the following day. This is the final phase.”

According to head coach Robert Saleh, Rodgers has zero restrictions during these exercises, and the four-time MVP confirms that he currently believes he "can do anything."

“I can run at full speed. It’s just a matter of the natural reactions.”

Following Rodgers' injury in the opening match of the 2023 season, the Jets experienced a challenging season. Their inconsistent quarterback play and weak offensive performance contributed to their disappointing outcome.

Yet, with Rodgers back in shape, optimism surrounds the new season.

“If I don't play at my best, we may be released, so it's safe to assume we'd all be fired,” Rodgers stated. “I enjoy this tension. The NFL is a competitive environment."

Rodgers referred to the demanding nature of New York's football market. "You can't please everyone," he added. "As you age in this league, your job security is contingent on your performance. It happened in Green Bay, and I'm a few years older now. I anticipate playing at an excellent level, contributing to a productive and competitive season."

The Jets begin their 2024 season against the defending NFC champions, the San Francisco 49ers, on September 9th, during Monday Night Football.

Independent presidential candidate Kennedy speaks during a campaign event where he announced Nicole Shanahan as his VP pick on March 26, 2024.
