A medical professional in western Ukraine, serving as the head of a local health commission, is alleged to have amassed millions by providing fake disability certifications to healthy males. During searches at her residence and workplace in Chmelnytskyi, authorities discovered over 5 million euros in cash, primarily in US dollars.

As reported by the State Investigation Bureau, the money was found in various hiding spots around the apartment, such as jars, drawers, and wall niches. During the search, the suspect attempted to discard two bags containing 500,000 US dollars out of the window. At her office, investigators discovered lists of men who had received fraudulent disability claims.

Along with her son, the region's pension fund chief, and other family members, the woman allegedly purchased 30 properties within Ukraine, nine luxury cars, business ventures worth millions, and a hotel. Real estate was also acquired in Austria, Spain, and Turkey with the ill-gotten gains. Over 2 million euros were found in foreign bank accounts. Following the revelation in a report by public television, it was revealed that the 64-year-old woman is a member of the Servant of the People presidential party in the Chmelnytskyi Regional Council. The suspects are now facing up to 12 years in prison for charges of grand-scale fraud and unlawful enrichment.

Meanwhile, 13 doctors had been arrested in the eastern Ukrainian region of Kharkiv, accused of providing disability certifications to over 400 men for a fee of 2200 euros each. In early 2022, following the Russian invasion, many men of military age, between the ages of 18 and 60, were attempting to avoid military service by obtaining false disability documents.
