A mother from Michigan perished after shoving her 2-year-old child out of the way of a speeding car during a drag race.
Kadie Price, a 33-year-old spectator, was at the racing event held at Silver Lake State Park Sand Dunes in Oceana County's western Michigan.
A miscontrolled Jeep CJ veered off the racing course and smashed into a parked car, as per Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast's statement to CNN. Price had just saved her daughter from getting hurt when the parked vehicle suddenly struck her. Her husband, Charlie Price, who served as a deputy at Grand Rapids' Kent County Sheriff's Office, was also in danger of being hit.
The driver of the Jeep has been helpful and agreed to give a blood sample, as Mast informed CNN. In addition, investigators were able to gather reliable witness statements, photos from bystanders, and digital proof, all of which will be submitted to prosecutors.
According to Mast's appeal, "Please remember the Price family in your prayers."
A GiveSendGo fundraiser page was created by Sgt. Joy Matthews, a colleague of Charlie Price, to honor Kadie's final heroic act and support her children as they endure life without her. This fundraiser has gathered more than $60,000 by 5 p.m. on Tuesday. The full sum will be sent directly to the Price family, as stated on the fundraiser page.
"Our community wants to stand together and show tremendous support to the family," the fundraiser said.
Silver Lake State Park Sand Dunes is a well-liked location for its 450-acre off-road-vehicle playground, positioned about 80 miles from Grand Rapids.
Offering approximately 2,000 acres of sand dunes along Lake Michigan, the park is the only sand dune riding area east of the Mississippi River, according to the Michigan State Natural Resources website.

During this unfortunate incident, Charlie Price, Kadie's husband and a deputy at Grand Rapids' Kent County Sheriff's Office, was also in danger of being hit due to the speeding car. The Price family, who are currently coping with the loss, have received an overwhelming amount of support from the community, as evidenced by the fundraiser that has collected over $60,000 so far.
