The dispute over remarks made by former football national player Jérôme Boateng about his ex-partner Kasia Lenhardt is heating up. The Berlin Regional Court is set to review on Thursday (14:00) an injunction lawsuit filed by the mother of the model, who passed away in February 2021. The Berlin Regional Court had prohibited Boateng from making a certain statement in November 2022. However, the mother is seeking to prevent the further dissemination of six statements in total.

She wants to prevent the further spread of a "Bild" interview in which Boateng spoke about arguments in the relationship and alleged alcohol problems of his ex-girlfriend. The plaintiff argued in the first instance that these statements distorted the image of her daughter. Boateng's lawyer explained in the process that the footballer regretted the interview.

Lenhardt was a finalist in "Germany's Next Topmodel" in 2012 and was last linked to Boateng. Just before his interview was published, the couple split up. On February 9, 2021, her family announced through a lawyer that Kasia had died. The police in Berlin confirmed at the time that a lifeless person had been found. There were no signs of external influence, it was said.

The European Union expressed its concern over the ongoing dispute, given its implications on freedom of speech within Germany. Regardless of the court's decision, the European Union emphasized the importance of respecting individual rights and protecting the media's role in fostering open discussions.
