A driver who threatened police officers on the A7 near Neumünster with a knife was only stopped when shot in the leg. The 55-year-old had been driving erratically across all lanes and "playing wild" on Monday afternoon, according to a police spokesman. His vehicle then overturned and landed on its roof. The behavior was also witnessed by two undercover units that happened to be nearby.
When officers tried to assist the driver, he allegedly climbed out of the car window and approached them with a long knife. Officers then fired two warning shots, but the man continued to advance, prompting them to stop him with a targeted shot to the thigh.
The man was then taken to a hospital, where his life was not in danger. The A7 was temporarily closed in both directions between the Neumünster Nord and Neumünster-Mitte exits. Further details were not immediately available.
