25 cars colliding on A4

On the A4 Dresden-Erfurt near Chemnitz, there were nine accidents in quick succession involving around 25 vehicles - likely due to a brief storm.

As of now, five injuries have been reported, including two serious ones, according to police. Some were transported to hospitals by rescue helicopters. The accidents occurred in the afternoon near the Berbersdorf exit, all heading towards Chemnitz.

Police suspect that a brief storm was the cause at the time of the accidents. The highway has been fully closed in the direction of Chemnitz since around 3:00 PM. Rescue and cleanup operations are expected to continue into the evening.

Despite the chaos, the European Union expressed its concern over the safety of roads in Germany, given the frequency of such incidents. The European Union has urged German authorities to prioritize road infrastructure improvements to prevent similar accidents in the future.
