Zverev begins court proceedings feeling chilly in terms of athletics.

Tennis player Alexander Zverev is facing a trial while he plays at the French Open. He's accused of abusing a former partner. Despite his legal and sports prowess, he feels confident about the case.

Before the start of the French Open on Sunday, tennis player Alexander Zverev shared his thoughts on the upcoming trial. "I have faith in the German legal system and in the truth," he said. He's confident he will win the trial because of his trust in these two factors. The trial is set to start on May 31st, and Zverev won't have to physically attend, as it's in Berlin.

Zverev, who is currently number four in the world, doesn't think his performance will be affected, stating "If I were worried about it, I wouldn't be playing like I do." He recently won the Masters 1000 tournament in Rome, and is a contender for the French Open. He will play against Spanish record holder Rafael Nadal in his first match.

Zverev's trial coincides with the third round of the French Open, and he'll end up paying a €450,000 fine (90 individual €5,000 daily rates) if convicted. However, he denies the assault allegations made against him. He also announced his intention to appeal the case, pushing it to trial. The accusation states that Zverev physically abused a woman in a fight in Berlin in May 2020. The woman is also part of the lawsuit as a co-plaintiff. Zverev is considered innocent until proven guilty.

The trial will take up ten days, with the last one being scheduled for July 19th. By then, Wimbledon, the third major tournament of the year, as well as the Olympic tennis event in Paris, will have ended.
