France undergoes a transition as Macron and Le Pen vie for presidency. - The prosecutor pushes for the harshest punishment possible for the alleged murderer of an HR head.

In the legal battle against the infamous "Personnel Chief Killer" in France, the prosecution is seeking life imprisonment for the culprit in a court hearing held in Grenoble. The defense's request for a reduced sentence due to limited legal capacity does not apply to the 49-year-old, who is charged with three murders and one attempted murder. According to reports from "Les Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace", the prosecution asserted this on Tuesday.

The accused had appealed the initial punishment of life imprisonment by the court in Valence last summer. The jobless engineer from Lorraine was convicted by the court of shooting two HR managers and an employee of a job center. He also attempted to kill another HR manager.

These acts of violence occurred in January 2021 across three days in Alsace and southern France. One of the victims was the HR manager for the French branch of building materials manufacturer Knauf in Wolfgantzen, Estelle L. The accused had a past association with her, as he had previously interned at another organization's HR department.

Bloodthirsty vengeance for unbearable lay-offs

During the trial, the defendant mainly remained quiet about the driving force behind his actions. Nevertheless, the charges revealed that he intended to retaliate against those he believes were responsible for the setbacks in his career. Three out of the four victims had been involved in dismissals that negatively impacted the man years prior. The suspect had lawfully procured the two murder weapons.

A verdict in the appeal process was anticipated for Tuesday evening or Wednesday.
