The DFB promises to award 400,000 euros to each national player if they win the European Championship title.

During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Germany's national football team's subpar performance means they won't receive any bonuses from the German Football Association (DFB). However, their upcoming home games at the European Championship in 2024 are expected to yield record-breaking rewards.

If the German team were to clinch the European Championship title, each player would receive a whopping 400,000 euros in bonuses. The DFB has worked closely with the player council to establish the performance-based tournament bonuses in accordance with previous major tournaments. "There will be no changes made in the performance-related bonuses from the EM 2021 and the WM 2022," announced DFB's managing director, Andreas Rettig. "We reached an agreement with the player council about this last year."

The potential cost of rewarding up to 26 squad players with 400,000 euros each adds up to a staggering 10.4 million euros. The UEFA will shell out a maximum of 28.25 million euros in bonuses for the European champions. The base amount of 9.25 million euros is allocated for each of the 24 participants.

Rettig, 61, expressed his gratitude to the players for their collaborative effort in forming the national team and generously contributing to the DFB's youth initiatives. "We're especially grateful that the players are giving back to youth work at their home EM," he said.

At the previous World Cup in Qatar, the national players received no monetary compensation when they were eliminated in the group stage. Winning a group would have provided each player with 50,000 euros, while a quarter-final appearance would have earned them 100,000 euros and a semi-final spot 150,000 euros. Third place would have granted 200,000 euros, but since there's no equivalent position in a European Championship, there is no equivalent bonus for that. The highest bonus the DFB has awarded in the past was 300,000 euros per player for the World Cup victory in 2014 in Brazil. Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller, and Real Madrid's Toni Kroos are among the current EM squad members.
