Edmund Stoiber, the ex-Bavarian Minister President and CSU leader, received the Politikaward for his lifetime achievements on Monday night in Berlin. This ceremony, held a day after the disappointing results of the traffic light in the European polls, was used by the 82-year-old to push for a confidence vote from Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). "It's a matter of hygiene for me," Stoiber asserted. It's not adequate to be the Federal Chancellor with 14 percent from a national election and address significant matters.

On the other hand, the previous SPD leader Franz Müntefering, who delivered the laudatory address for Stoiber, opposed this argument. "There's a dominant culture in our Germany, and this dominant culture is the Basic Law," said the 84-year-old. "The Basic Law doesn't mention hygiene. That's for the kitchen."

The Politikawards, presented by the "Politik und Kommunikation" magazine and the Quadriga University, have been celebrating people in politics who have stood out through outstanding accomplishments since 2003. The "Politician of the Year" award was given to Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD). He also responded to the Union's demand for a new Federal Parliament vote. "What's the use of having a new Bundestag election?" he questioned. "The Bundestag election occurred in 2021, and the next one is in 2025. Even if you lose elections in between, you don't lose legitimacy."

During the Berlin-based event moderated by journalist Alev Dogan and Hajo Schumacher, around 300 politicians, journalists, officials, and representatives of businesses and institutions were present. The Greens' leader Ricarda Lang was honored as the "New Shining Star." The 102-year-old Holocaust survivor Margot Friedländer got an honorary award. "Her lifelong commitment to the memory culture and against any forms of racism and antisemitism, as well as her commitment to reconciliation between Jews and non-Jewish Germans, make her an inspiration to us all," justified the jury, which consisted of 24 individuals from various social fields.
