Police operation - Smell of gas in Meppen - wedding celebration interrupted

A strong gas smell in Meppen led to an deployment of police and fire department. According to a police spokesperson, elevated levels of the toxic gas Hydrogen Sulfide were detected. A nearby wedding celebration had to be interrupted prematurely. A Dekra event also had to pause due to the gas smell.

Experts from police, fire department, and the district were searching for the cause, which initially remained unclear.

The police and fire department’s emergency response in Meppen was prompted by the distinct smell of gas. The premature interruption of the wedding celebration in Lower Saxony was a consequence of this smell. The police operation in Meppen was joined by specialists from the fire department and the district as they investigated the source of the gas odor. The nearby Dekra event was also forced to halt due to the strong smell of gas.
