Accidents - Several turkeys die in livestock truck fire
Several turkeys died in a fire on an animal transport vehicle on the highway 7 near Niederaula (Hersfeld-Rotenburg district) on Tuesday evening. As the police reported on Wednesday morning, the towing vehicle of the transporter loaded with 900 live turkeys caught fire, presumably due to a technical defect. A police patrol that happened to be at the scene tried to extinguish the fire together with the driver, but was unable to bring it under control. Thanks to the rapid arrival of the fire department, the fire was contained and the lives of dozens of animals were saved. It is still unclear how many animals did not survive the fire. The road surface of the highway was damaged by the fire. The right-hand lane will therefore remain closed for the time being.
