Ross Antony celebrates a whole month

Ross Antony is the most popular British person in German showbusiness - and one of the most shining figures in the Entertainment industry. In his resume, there is Popstar, Jungle King, and Gastronomy. Now he is celebrating his 50th birthday.

Born on July 9, 1974, in Bridgnorth, England, it was clear that Ross Antony Catterall would become a star one day. His grandmother loved singing, "my mom made theater costumes, my dad sang in a choir, and my sister was a costumer designer," he told the "Kurier" in an interview once. No wonder then, that the little Ross stood on the theater stage for the first time when he was three years old. Shortly after, he began singing and dancing lessons.

"Fabulous Years" with Bro'Sis

From the musical stage, it went for the young Ross Antony to the "Popstars" casting. In 2001, he won a place in the band Bro'Sis in the RTLZWEI talent show. Along with his bandmates Giovanni Zarrella, Indira Weis, Hila Bronstein, Shaham Joyce, and Faiz Mangat, Antony started off. The first single "I Believe" sold over a million copies, and in total, four million record players of the band were sold. Live performances sent fans into hysteria for years, before Bro'Sis disbanded in 2006 due to "musical differences."

"We had five fantastic years together, even though we were so different, it worked out great. And no one expected us to last that long," Antony recalled in a conversation with the magazine "Bunte" about his time in the casting band. A comeback he definitively rules out. And instead of pop, he sings schlagers these days.

Jungle Camp as a Trampoline

Ross Antony, Hila Bronstein, Faiz Mangat, Indira Weis, Shaham Joyce and Giovanni Zarrella (l-r) won out over 11,000 applicants in 2001 and are now Bro'Sis.

After the end of his popstar career, Antony entered RTL's Jungle Camp in 2008. Initially laughed at by viewers and audiences as a howler monkey, he was chosen for five bush trials. Antony overcame his fears, transformed into "Rambo-Ross" by the end of the season, and won "I'm a Star - Get me out of here!" - despite his many phobias. "I was afraid of rats, snakes, spiders, especially heights, and I thought if I confronted everything directly, it would help me, and it did," he summarized in the "Bunte" interview.

Antony considers his Jungle Camp participation today as the "springboard" for his success and has no regrets. The jungle was "after Bro'Sis" the best decision of his life: "I have profited greatly from it."

At Home with Ross Antony

Privately, Ross Antony has been in a relationship with opera singer Paul Reeves since 2006. Together, the couple has two children, which they adopted in 2015 and 2017. The two keep their offspring strictly out of the public eye, so neither the gender nor the names of the children are known.

Besides singing, dancing, acting, and hosting, Antony is also an enthusiastic host. In 2014, he opened the Cafe "Chillax" in his hometown of Siegburg, where he worked there regularly. Along with his husband, they also ran a Bed & Breakfast in English Wallingford, but they had to sell it due to Brexit. Today, Antony and Reeves rent out accommodations in the county of Cornwall. They have two holiday homes there, where they also live partly with their family.

Ross Antony (with Daniel Hartwich) is crowned RTL Jungle King in 2008.

Appropriate to the gastronomy, baking is Antony's favorite hobby. Since he reached the finale of "The Great British Bake Off" in 2020, his passion for sweet pastries has been ignited. Meanwhile, he has published three baking books, in which he presents his best German and British recipes together with his mother Vivien.

Grateful for turning 50

For his round birthday, Antony has big plans, as he celebrates it for an entire month in the houses in Cornwall. "My friends and family will come to visit us in stages throughout the whole of July, so we can celebrate my birthday together there. It will be a lot of fun for everyone," the jubilee told the women's magazine "Woche heute".

The birthday boy looks relaxed towards this new chapter of his life: "I was a little afraid of turning 50, but my mother gave me some wise advice: I should be grateful that I'm even allowed to turn 50. That's not self-evident."

Ross Antony shared his love for music and performing arts, mentioning his grandmother's passion for singing and his father's membership in a choir. This interest led him to participate in RTL's "Popstars" casting show, where he eventually joined the band Bro'Sis and achieved significant success with hits like "I Believe."

Following the disbandment of Bro'Sis, Ross Antony ventured into television by participating in RTL's "Jungle Camp," overcoming his fears and winning the competition, which he described as a "springboard" for his future success.

Ross Antony's love for music transcended pop genres as he showcased his affinity for schlagers, a type of German Pop music, and even reached the finale of the British baking competition "The Great British Bake Off." With successful baking books under his belt, Antony continues to share his passion for both sweet pastries and Pop music, incorporating both German and British recipes with his mother Vivien.

Great love: Ross Antony and his husband Paul Reeves.
