Processes - Roommate beaten to death with iron bar: five years in prison

A 45-year-old man has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for manslaughter by the Frankfurt Regional Court for beating a fellow resident in a tent accommodation to death with an iron punch. The defense has already lodged an appeal against the verdict, as the court announced on Friday. In March last year, there was initially an argument between the Sri Lankan defendant and the victim of the same age in the accommodation located between Frankfurt and Offenbach. The later perpetrator apparently felt threatened and also accused his opponent of theft. (AZ 3490 Js 217894/22)

After several months of proceedings, the jury found that the defendant had a significant personality disorder, which, according to the verdict, led to a limited capacity for guilt. In addition, the judges assumed a less serious case of manslaughter because the man had been massively attacked and threatened by the later victim. However, the court refused to place the man in drug treatment - according to the expert opinion, the man's drug use was not pathological in nature.
