The election is over. - Protesters end their fast over climate change concerns.
A Berlin-based climate action group, "Hunger Until You're Honest," has concluded their striking campaign. The group has expressed their disappointment and frustration with Chancellor Olaf Scholz's lack of action and negligence towards climate change. They had hoped to prompt Scholz to issue a public statement acknowledging the imminent danger to civilization as a result of climate change. The participants had been asking for a declaration stating that carbon dioxide is already at a level too high for sustainability, and that there is no more room for more CO2 emissions, which would require drastic change.
Over eight individuals participated in this hunger strike at various stages. Wolfgang Metzeler-Kick, one of the core activists, fasted for a total of 92 days, while Richard Cluse did so for 77 days. Others joined them later.
For most of the action, participants consumed only small amounts of juice in addition to other liquids to sustain their energy levels. Towards the end, Metzeler-Kick and the activist Adrian Lack shared a struggle when they stopped ingesting juice. This led to a medical emergency, forcing them to seek medical attention and even causing Metzeler-Kick to temporarily end his hunger strike. They postponed the suspension of fluids until they received any progressive signals from the government. However, they've now declared an end to the campaign.
Furthermore, the activists are turning their attention towards the media for their lack of coverage and bias regarding their cause. Adrian Lack, who was on hunger strike for 37 days, condemned the media for their underreporting and distortion of their demands.
