Nearly 55,000 people are anticipated to visit Bundeswehr this Saturday at the airbase in Schönewalde/Holzdorf, which lies on the border between Brandenburg and Sachsen-Anhalt. This base will eventually serve as one of the primary air forces facilities in Germany.

At the Bundeswehr Day event on Saturday (9:00 am - 6:00 pm), attendees will witness impressive flight demonstrations and catch a glimpse of the newly introduced F-35 fighter jet. General Carsten Breuer, the Bundeswehr Inspector General, is scheduled to attend as well.

The German military will open nine of its facilities for the general public during the Bundeswehr Day. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius aims to enhance the Bundeswehr's agility in the face of potential threats from Russia. In addition, the International Air and Space Fair will conclude this weekend, with associated flight displays occurring at the Berlin-Brandenburg Airport BER.

Schönewalde/Holzdorf is being prepped to host one of Germany's major air force bases for the Bundeswehr. The German government intends to acquire the Arrow 3 air defense system from Israel to allow for interception of missiles flying at high elevations. The base in Holzdorf will also be home to 47 out of the 60 new heavy transport helicopters for the Bundeswehr.

Attendees can glimpse various aircraft at this event, including the A400M transport plane, Eurofighter, and CH-53 helicopters, according to the Bundeswehr announcement. They may also observe the new F-35 fighter jet and its flight patterns from a close range. Additionally, representatives from the British armed forces will showcase a helicopter and heavy transport equipment.

Defense Minister Pistorius is slated to attend the airbase in Faßberg, Lower Saxony, on Saturday. There, he will unveil plans for a novel approach to military service in the near future. Pistorius has signaled that his strategy relies on mandatory service elements, despite Germany suspending the draft in 2011.
