Sport - Olympic bid: LSB delighted with "unanimous vote"
The Landessportbund Berlin (LSB) has warmly welcomed the approval of the members of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) for the further development of an Olympic bid. "The unanimous vote of the DOSB General Assembly is a clear sign that German sport is behind the idea of bringing the Olympic and Paralympic Games to Germany. This encourages us as a state sports association to continue to position Berlin as part of a national bid," said LSB President Thomas Härtel on Saturday after the decision at the DOSB General Assembly in Frankfurt am Main.
With the unanimous adoption of a "Frankfurt Declaration", the DOSB was commissioned to develop a detailed concept and at the same time set the social framework for the Olympic project. According to the plans, the Olympic candidacy for the 2036 or 2040 Summer Games is to be decided at the next DOSB Convention at the end of next year.
Härtel names parameters for the bid. It must be "sustainable in effect and sustainable in design", "with a very sensitive view of the costs and, above all, with the involvement of all people and with the benefits for the whole of sport in Germany."
State Sports Federation Director Friedhard Teuffel referred to the benefits for society and the sports facility infrastructure: "We at LSB Berlin have spoken out clearly in favor of a bid. Because it opens up new opportunities for the development of sport, for new sports areas, for example, and the focus on the value of sport for society."
