Dr. Gary Weiand, a doctor and farmer from Freiburg, planted 78 olive trees at the Kaiserstuhl in southern Baden. This year, he intends to extract olive oil from the harvest for the first time. The exact location for the oil pressing process is uncertain; it could be a mill in Tessin. Media outlets reported on olive cultivation in southern Baden before.

The olive trees at Kaiserstuhl originate from southern Spain. Weiand transported them to southern Baden by truck at the start of the decade.

Global warming has enabled the cultivation of olives north of the Alps. Testing is being done, including in the Cologne area and in Austria. Agro Rebels, a startup company in the neighboring country, has been trying to establish olive groves for a while.

In traditional olive-growing regions near the Mediterranean, climate change is causing conditions like drought and heat, which are adversely affecting the crops, according to a recent report by Stiftung Warentest. They stated that the overall quality of olive oil has deteriorated considerably compared to previous assessments. The primary cause of these defects is climate change.
