Nepalese "Little Buddha" Convicted of Child Sexual Assault

In Nepal, a self-proclaimed spiritual figure, identified as Ram Bahadur Bomjan, who claims his followers to be reborn Buddhas, has been taken into custody for allegations of child sexual abuse. The legal consequences for the 33-year-old, often referred to as the "young Buddha," remain undecided, as stated by a court representative in Sarlahi, located in the southern part of the country.

Bomjan was apprehended in January, close to the capital Kathmandu. As per the authorities, this spiritual leader had eluded them for years prior to his arrest. He was a frequent draw for enormous crowds with his meditations in the wilderness.

Bomjan gained his fame as the "young Buddha" during his teenage years. Galling to his followers, he was said to meditate for extended periods without consuming any food, water, or rest.

However, his reputation took a turn for the worst. He garnered headlines for unfortunate reasons, with multiple accusations of physical and sexual assault against him since 2010. Numerous complaints have been lodged against him.
