Champions League - National player Hendrich defends referee

National soccer player Kathrin Hendrich is confident that the criticized referee Stephanie Frappart (39) will "continue to go her way" after her Champions League appearance in the men's match between Bayern Munich and FC Copenhagen (0:0). "I know her very well, I think she usually does her job very well and has a confident demeanor," said the 31-year-old VfL Wolfsburg defender on Thursday in a media roundtable ahead of the DFB team's Nations League match against Denmark in Rostock on Friday (8.30pm/ZDF).

In her third Champions League appearance on Wednesday,Frappart had denied Munich a possible handball penalty, among other things, and therefore caused displeasure among the home side. Hendrich did not comment on this explicitly, but said: "I also find it pleasant because you can simply discuss things with her if there are any ambiguities."

Bayern's substitute goalkeeper Sven Ulreich also had this to say about the French referee: "She can give me a yellow card. But I'm not going to make a fool of myself and run in front of her." Ulreich had been angered by the lack of a corner kick whistle for his team in the second half.

In his first time in charge of a Bayern match, Frappart was not only the focus of attention when Ulreich was yellow-carded, but especially in the closing stages of the goalless Premier League match. "It's better not to say anything to referees than to coaches. In case of doubt, that can only be expensive," said coach Thomas Tuchel cautiously after the group game.
