The SC Magdeburg has won the German handball championship for the third time, regaining the title in the Handball Bundesliga. They secured the victory with a 34:21 (19:11) win over the Rhein-Neckar Lions on Thursday evening. Daniel Pettersson scored the most goals for SCM with six, while Juri Knorr (5) was the top scorer for the hosts.

The team coached by Bennet Wiegert has a firm grip on the top of the table with only one game day remaining before the season ends. They can still dream of the quadruple - league title, DHB Cup victory, World Cup victory, and the defense of their Champions League title in June.

The match took place in front of 12,233 spectators in Mannheim, and the SCM started with a solid performance. They took an early lead (4:10/15th minute) and never allowed any doubt about a win.

In emotional circumstances, former national player Uwe Gensheimer from the Lions said his goodbyes. He played his last home game after a long injury break and scored four goals - two of them resulting from converted penalty shots. He will officially be handed a championship honor on the following Sunday, after the last home game against the HSG Wetzlar (4:30 p.m.).
